Georgetown’s Boys & Girls Club

June 25, 2008 at 12:57 pm , by Jenel Looney

Earlier this week, I spent a few minutes with Daniel Anstee, Director of the Georgetown Boys and Girls Club. (It took me a few days to get around to writing because I was traumatized when a little boy asked Mr. Anstee if I was his mother. Since Mr. Anstee is my age, or perhaps slightly older, I’ve been contemplating calling Georgetown Plastic Surgery ever since!) The Boys & Girls Club serves a very important need for families throughout the year, but especially in the summer. Most parents have to continue working even when school is out, so it must be an enormous relief to know that your kids have a place where they can play safely. The annual membership is just $10. Kids aged 7-12 are free to come and go throughout the day. And they won’t go hungry, either, because the Georgetown Independent School District provides lunch there as part of their summer lunch program. Teens come from 3-8 p.m.
As a non-profit, the Club is always happy to accept donations to help it continue to provide these essential services to Georgetown’s youth. An anonymous benefactor recently offered to match local donations up to $10,000 in an effort to help the Club meet its goal of raising $75,000. So anything you give right now will have twice the impact. To donate, you can give through their website, or just give me a call at 512-876-6544, and I’ll be happy to make arrangements to pick up a check from you and deliver it to the Club.
