Groundbreaking to start soon on Austin Community College campus in Round Rock

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Austin Community College already offers some evening continuing education classes in Georgetown, at the high school, but our local education options are soon going to expand enormously. According to the Austin Business Journal, groundbreaking will begin in early 2009 for a 60-acre campus in Round Rock. Initially, the campus will serve 5,000 students with 250,000 square feet of buildings on campus. Read more about the Round Rock campus here. If I won the lottery, I would just keep taking classes the rest of my life, so all the education opportunities coming to the Georgetown area make our town even more wonderful to my mind.

Souper Salad coming soon to Georgetown, TX

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

I had such a fun night tonight. Amy Vessels, director of Georgetown’s Visitors Center, invited me to her home for a Pampered Chef party, led by consultant Diane Stepakof-Fay. I love to cook, so this party was right up my alley. Pampered Chef has great quality cooking materials, so I knew I’d be ordering something. As Diane spoke about her products, she prepared a delicious chicken, grapefruit, and avocado salad.
Speaking of salads… One of the other guests mentioned that she and her husband are soon going to open a Souper Salad restaurant at Wolf Ranch! I’m so excited! I love a good salad bar, and Souper Salad is one of the best. They always have an excellent variety of fresh veggies and other salad toppings, as well as bread and soup that are delicious and taste homemade. I predict they’ll be busy every day at lunchtime and will do a good dinner business, as well. If everything goes according to plan, they’ll open for business on November 1, less than two months away. Mark your calendars, and I’ll see you there! Souper Salad will open soon in Georgetown TX

Free Workshop: Buying vs. Renting

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Sheila Evans and I are organizing a workshop to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of buying and renting. The workshop will be October 1 and is open to anyone who would like to come. (Please RSVP by September 24 simply so we can get an estimated head count. You can either call me at 512.876.6544 or email me at Jenel@HometownGeorgetown.com.) The workshop will be cohosted by Stephanie Featherstone of State Farm Insurance, Rachael Haynes of Home Source Mortgage, and Flora Amyett from Gracy Title. Sheila designed this great postcard, which we’ll be mailing out to a list of people who are currently renting their homes. By reading this blog, you have officially been invited. Hope to see you there!

Catfish Parlour opens for lunch

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

In February, I wrote a post about Catfish Parlour opening here in Georgetown. Chris Kerbow, the owner, just posted a comment to HometownGeorgetown.com to let everyone know that they’re now open for lunch (closed Mondays). I got a sneak peek at their lunch menu last week at the Chamber of Commerce. Looks like they have a great selection for very reasonable prices. Catfish Parlour in Georgetown TX now open for lunch
