Restaurant updates

| Lots of exciting things happening in the restaurant realm here in Georgetown. Today, I had lunch at the new Monument Cafe, on the corner of Austin Avenue and 5th Street. The new location opened on Monday. I think everyone in town is trying to get in this week. Our wait was quite long. However, it was a much nicer wait than at the previous location; they have a good sized waiting area inside, plus comfortable benches outside. Did you know that you can look up the daily specials on their website? When I’m too lazy to cook, I like to check their specials and call in an order for pick-up. I can always count on the food to be delicious. There’s a reason the restaurant is always crowded. The food is out of this world. | |
| By the way, the Monument will serve Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings. If I remember right, their menu insert said Thanksgiving dinner would be served from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. They also have a great selection of homemade pies that you can take home for dessert. | |
| While I was waiting, one of my friends mentioned that she’d eaten recently at Silver & Stone, which just opened for business atop the gorgeous Tamiro Plaza. She said she called to ask whether she needed to dress up, and she was told that the dress code was business casual. Jeans might be okay, the woman on the phone said, if they were paired with a nice shirt. My friend said most of the men in there were wearing suits. | |
| Larry Black, husband and partner-in-real estate of Lena Lansdale, one of my colleagues at Moreland, told me the food was very good, and they had valet parking available. Larry suggests you try the cucumber martini. | |
| Silver & Stone is a pricier option than most of Georgetown’s restaurants. Expect to pay at least $50 per person, more if you have some drinks. | |
| Tomorrow, I’m going to have lunch with a different friend at our brand new Souper! Salad!, which celebrated its grand opening on Monday. I love a good salad. I talked today to a few women who beat me to Souper! Salad!, and they each said it was wonderful. Souper! Salad! is at Wolf Ranch, facing Highway 29. (For some reason, I really enjoy! writing! all! those! exclamation! points.) | ![]() |
