The City of Georgetown’s Convention & Visitors Bureau has put out a nice newsletter with details on all the holiday happenings here in Georgetown. First up is the Lighting of the Square on November 28, the day after Thanksgiving. (Which means, for those of you doing your math, that Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away!) For a handy one-page calendar, click here. Doesn’t the little boy holding a Williamson County Courthouse snow globe make you smile? That graphic was designed by Georgetown’s own Nick Ramos of Graphismo.

Rhonda Smith, a friend of mine from the Leadership Georgetown program, is the founder and executive director of Spirit Reins, a wonderful local non-profit whose mission is to provide hope and healing to at-risk youth and families in crisis by combining the healing power of horses with the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. Rhonda is one of the kindest people I know. Through the Spirit Reins program, she has enriched the lives of countless children.
Spirit Reins’ annual benefit, Dancin’ in Denim, will be held on Saturday, November 15. In addition to music and dancing, there will be an auction with lots of wonderful items up for bid. Some of the items are:
- “Last of the Breed Tour” guitar signed by Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Ray Price;
- 2 night stay for two at Lake Austin Spa and Resort;
- Weekend RV Rental
- Stay at the Four Seasons Hotel
- and an Appaloosa horse colt!

Georgetown Police Explorer Post 152 has created a haunted house at 808 MLK (the old library) as a safe alternative for trick-or-treaters. The haunted house opened last night and will be open again tonight from 6 - 9 p.m. Both a scary and non-scary version will be available, so don’t hesitate to bring younger kids. In addition to the haunted house, there will be games, a raffle, pizza, and drinks. Click the link above for more information.

Take a look at this adorable logo created for the upcoming Art for Animals benefit by local graphic artist Nick Ramos of Graphismo. (Go to the site and check out some of the other logos Nick has created. My favorite is the one for Savvy Tabby. Don’t know who Savvy Tabby is, but the logo is enough to get me wondering!) This is an auction plus. The “plus” is pretty exciting… A Chocolate Affair. An array of chocolate desserts is reason enough to attend, but helping the animals of Georgetown is an even better motivation.

Ticket prices have not yet been set for the banquet, but they will probably be somewhere around $40 apiece ($320 for a table of eight). This is not a fundraising banquet. Rather, it’s a celebration of all that the Boys & Girls Club brings to Georgetown. Hope to see you there!
